Bert has an idea for keeping track of your books!!

http://www.librarything.com

-- Have you seen this site? It is amazing. You can set up an account (free for up to 200 titles; $10 for a year; $25 for life) and easily catalog your personal library.

As you make an entry it grabs info off the web from places like the Library of Congress, Amazon.com, etc. You just start by typing a title or author or ISBN # into a search box. It comes up with possible matches and you just click on the correct one. It fills in the rest of the standardized info including covers of most books! You can also add tags and comments.

It is so fast and easy! (You can even buy a barcode scanner for $15!) I have a master spreadsheet to keep track of the guild's books, so I just had it sorted by author name and went down my list.
It can also do some importing but my spreadsheet and my interneting are two different computers so I didn't even try it. It was fast fast fast just entering author names!

Of course, I will continue to keep my spreadsheet as my master file; I never trust an online resource to be my only copy of anything!

I did the 160 books in my guild's library (I am the librarian) and put the URL for our library in the latest newsletter. It will be interesting to see the reaction (although we don't have a high percentage of computer/internet users in the membership).

http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?view=ColvillePiecemakers is the link to my guild's library if you want to play around with it. You can click on things like Author, Title, etc. to sort it. The
Shared column represents how many other folks with an account have that same book.
As more and more people start using it there will be even more interactive info like context sensitive recommendations, member reviews, yadda yadda yadda...

Check it out!
