Ricky Tims Where Are You????

By Irishga, April 2007

Last month I began stumbling across convergence quilts on the web.  There were pictures on various sites and doing a search brought good reviews of Ricky Tims’ book.  I grew quite intrigued and enamoured by this mysterious looking quilt.  Normally I can figure out the pattern by looking at pictures, however this looked easy, but artsy and complicated at the same time.  Finally I could stand it no longer and ordered Ricky Tims’ book.

A month later the book still hadn’t arrived and I was growing impatient, I’d ordered the book from the same place I always order from, and usually the books arrive within a week.  I was feeling like I’d been stood up by a blind date (not that I’ve ever had a blind date, but I can imagine).

 IrishGA's Convergence - 2007

Irishga's Convergence without real instructions...

Now I went back and looked at a couple of pictures and gathered a few fabrics and sewed and cut and sewed and cut and twisted and turned the strips and sewed and examined, finally I pinned it up on a wall in the living room and looked at it overnight.  The next morning I ripped the whole thing apart and sewed it back together again.  Well I still didn’t quite have it right; but the quilt is going to get finished and given to my nephew for his birthday at the end of April; and I still haven’t received the book!!  Everyday when I walk back from the post office you can hear me crying, “Ricky Tims where are you?????”
