The Board reports.......

V.P. Butterfly Brenda:

I am still going to school and it is harder than I expected.  I study ever night on on my breaks at work.  I asked Claudia to look for a new Vice President as I am unable to fullfill the position.

Past President qD report:

If you wish to post this then find a spot, but I am very disheartened by the members of this guild right now.

I know that we all have lives, with families, work, commitments to other organizations, etc. but the past newsletter that Penny put out, I was dismayed by photos from members who chat here.  We do have a newsletter for RPLOTN.  You are members of RPLOTN and yet you  never send to Smoky.  Why is that?  Is it that you forgot or you couldn't care what she has done, getting our own website, maintaining the pages and writing and editing the newsletter every month, and she works too.  She also has a family to care for.

So this is my plea, please when you send the photos to Penny, send them to Smoky too.  So what if they are posted twice, that way everyone who belongs to this guild can admire your work, your family, your recipes, etc.

I am a concerned member and hope that this can be corrected.

Thank you

I post this because it is a same frustration that I feel.  I too used to poke thru the Cuppa's Newsletter - only to find all kinds of photos from RPLOTN members.  And I wonder why is that?  I didn't take this function away from Penny.  She quit and left RPLOTN high and dry - so I took it on.  I offered to link from the RPLOTN newsletter to hers and was flatly refused, so no photos are shared.  I appreciate people sending photos to the Cuppa's newsletter, but I don't understand why RPLOTN member photos are not being sent to the RPLOTN newsletter.   I get wonderful response from those who do send photos - but it feels like it is the same people over and over.  It's a board photo show - and they feel pressured to continue to send items when they are not working on anything new, and they apologize to me for not sending more photos !  We supposedly have over 100 members!   Are there no members quilting?  I have yet to see many SSS photos for this year - are the SSS's not sending to each other? You can find time to post to Yahoo, you can find time to send to Penny.  If you don't want a newsletter for RPLOTN  - please let me know.  This is not my newsletter - it's yours.  I do have fun finding new ideas to post, but it's hard to stay enthused without broad RPLOTN membership support.  SMOKY.

Charity Report ~ from our Antlers....

Willo44, Brenda and Needles have all updated their information for Lotto Blocks at www.rplotn.com/Lotto.htm

Brenda notes:    I have not received any blocks.

  Anyone recognize their squares??

This RPLOTN quilt is going to the Zebra Child Protection Centre in Edmonton.  Smoky finally got it quilted - thanks to RPLOTN for their Charity squares.  The Zebra project is quite unique in the world - with various policing and social services agencies working together to bring justice to some pretty ugly situations.  There are currently 400+ case files open in Edmonton alone.  These case files are children who are physically abused.  These children are between the ages of baby to about 14.  As one officer put it, "...after 25 years as a street cop, I saw a lot of desperation.  After 4 years at Zebra, I saw evil.".  Annie sent me a couple more quilts a couple of years back.  I believe another has already gone to Zebra and I think I have one more waiting to be quilted.  Yes, it takes time to fit these in - and if I could I would spend more time on them.  We have one elderly lady in the area who is making quilts for these kids - the lady is 87.  In the past 3 years she had made 68 quilts for them.  An inspiration to be sure.

If you ever ever wonder if making a few blocks makes a difference - wonder no more.  It can and it does.

Smoky.

Happy Easter everyone, as I head back to the cold North, well here in Florida today it is a low 50 and that is four days before Easter.  Yikes, What did we do to Mother to have cold weather in Florida.

NEWSLETTER Report

SO - where has the time gone!!!  Excuses excuses - wanna hear them?  NO - and I apologize for so many delays beyond my control and then the catchup needed on other things before being able to get back to the newsletter.  Swamped is the word that comes to mind.

However - I found a note that is now pinned to my fridge - "A clean house is a sign of a broken computer".

I think I will re-write that one to something even more appropriate in our world...

"A finished quilt is the sign of a broken computer"

MY FAVOURITE QUILT STORE IS UP FOR SALE!!!  I finally find the job of my dreams - and now Sandy wants to retire and has put the store up for sale.  *SIGH*  *HEAVY SIGH* ~ no one is offering to buy!

There is a new pattern out on the market...  and on sale in two quilt shops in Alberta!  I designed a fabric bowl in the shape of a Ginko Leaf - and the pattern is on the shelf at Earthly Goods and Extraordinary Extras Quilting!  Now to get a web site going for it and other designs - and get those other designs into patterns - oh just where is the time!!!?

Meanwhile, a new society is being formed... Quilts of Valour Canada !!  When I started with the newsletter, Judy/TX connected me with Quilts of Valor in the U.S.  After much dialogue with Catherine Roberts (QoV founder) last spring, I became the Canadian coordinator for QoV.  The project is taking off on it's own!!  With Catherine's blessing - QoV Canada will become a reality - and it's own entity.

And - at the end of March I went out to a retreat coordinated by WILLO!!!  It was soooo relaxing - once I got there!!  (It was a 12 hour drive thru some pretty yucky conditions thru the mountains, and heavy rain on the coast).  BUT - I made it and oh - what fun!  I can understand why Terry and Cookie and Bun and the others continue to do their retreat together - what a great way to quilt, slow down, chat, quilt, eat, sleep, quilt....

OH OH - I'm a gramma ~  or rather OMA!!!  DS's girlfriend had little Ellora Lynn on April 2.

Hope you enjoy the newsletter - and be sure to check out the rest of the RPLOTN web site from time to time!  Things like Meetings info and Birthdays and Secret Sisters - are NOT part of the newsletter.

Smoky

Ellora Lynn - in Oma's comforting arms!
