Linda Sue donates an RPLOTN quilt...

To the Royal Purple Ladies of the Night,
I would like to say thank you for donating the purple quilt made by your online quilt guild. The quilt was donated to Tendercare Health Center of Munising to help raise funds for the "2006 Memory Walk" held here at Tendercare. All monies raised from the walk went to the Alzheimer’s Association for Alger County support groups, educational programs, and respite care programs. The quilts were hung up in the hallway for everyone to see with the letters you sent to us. Laura Kroupa, our fundraising queen, sold tickets at $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 throughout the last week before the walk, which was held on Saturday September 23rd. Laura sold many tickets and the total amount you helped us raise was $176.00. This was a big help this year and everyone was excited to hear who would win. There were two quilts donated this year, one donated by Linda and John Bower, in honor of Raymond Perry, a local Munising resident with the Alzheimer’s Disease who has been missing for 2 months and a second quilt what was donated by your Royal Purple Ladies of the Night. Because of limited time we used both quilts for the same raffle, but we did draw two names so that two people could win. Coincidentally, Paulene Elavsky, a sister of a Tendercare resident was the winner of both quilts. Paulene purchased many tickets in hope she would win at least one. Because we drew her name twice, she generously donated one back and we drew another name for the purple quilt, which went to Mary Dore, a Tendercare housekeeper. Both winners were excited about winning the beautiful quilts. It turned out to be a beautiful day for our walk. We walked about 2 miles and afterwards in our beautifully decorated fall colored courtyard we had a BBQ, live music, and lots of prizes donated by our local businesses for all of the walkers. It was a great time for all of our resident, families and the community to get together for one last fun outdoors event before the snow falls. With the forecast calling for rain, we were very nervous this year, but the good Lord answered our prayers and the sun shined through the whole event and the food and entertainment was enjoyed by all. Thank you again for donating your beautiful quilt. I would like to invite you to join us next year for the walk. We plan to have it in August, and, it would be nice to meet a few of the members who made the beautiful quilt donated by the Purple Ladies. We hope you keep us in your thoughts for next years "2007 Memory Walk." Yours truly, Melinda Strand Tendercare Health Center |
