Charity Report ~ from our Antlers....

Please don't forget our charity quilt raffle - the last one of this year!  See http://www.rplotn.com

Charity Update .  I received from our wonderful Annie/TX a huge box of blocks, fabric and some partial quilts.  I have forwarded these items to the following Antlers:

Claudia/ND, Willo/BC, Wendy/Ont, and ButterflyBrenda/NV.

They are looking for more Lotto Blocks and also they are looking for orphan blocks.  They would also love to have anyone in the guild to contact them, for charity quilts.  They are many organizations around this country and in Canada that need them.  If you have a quilt or want to make a quilt from some of these blocks, please, please, please contact them.

I know that Dr. Beth also received from Annie items and she will be glad to work with anyone.

So please Ladies of the Guild, please contact your Antler and ask them what you can do or help them with.

Purple Hugs

If you are quilting an RPLOTN quilt - and have it ready to give away - please take a photo and let us know so we can update our Charity quilts web pages.

NEWSLETTER Report

Ahhh - the summer newsletter ... THANK YOU so much for agreeing to have one summer issue instead of two.  I had an inkling that work would be busy but was truly unprepared for the 16 hour work days.  What an event to put on!! Did you know that 4 o'clock happens TWICE a day??  For each of the three race days, my boss and I were up at 4 am to be at the track at 5 to shuttle our volunteers from the parking area to the volunteer center - until the volunteer shuttle crew came in.  We left the track about 10 pm, recovered at home for an hour and hit the sack and then did it all over again!!  There were parties we could attend, and just no way this old body was going to do that too!  whew!

A three day weekend of racing qualifying, racing itself - Cascar, Atlantic and Champ Car races - lots of excitement, lots of VERY hot weather - for us.  I'll look up some translations, but it was 38 Celcius outside and at the track itself, a foot off the pavement it was 44 Celcius. But enough of race cars - except - more ideas for quilting!

I sit here on my back deck, the weather is beauuuuutiful - and the bar-b-que is making a chicken dizzy (on the spit) and the sounds of a lawn mower, and the smells of bar-b-que and the sounds of neighbour kids splashing in their a paddling pool, the crisp sound of the wind chimes.  Traffic noise is minimal - we live on a reasonably busy road that feeds out of (or into) the neighborhood.  But it's pretty quiet - so folk have either yet to come home, or skipped out early from work.  This IS the place to be for sure!

qD has some pictures of her garden to share this month, some Secret Sisters are receiving some wonderful surprises - so check out the Secret Sisters page - it's outside the newsletter - so you can go to it any time you like and see what's happening.   The brown bag project is about to come "home".  I'm gathering any photos people wish to share - and will splash that up after the next chat room party where we all can reveal our projects.  It was very well received and I hope it's a go again so I will have time to participate!

That Moose pattern I promised will have to wait one more newsletter.  That spare time thing just didn't happen.

Speaking of spare time, since being home on Tuesday - I've had 3 job offers!  I did the sane thing (LOLOL) and took the part time job at my favorite qiult shop - Earthly Goods!!  About 13 hours per week - evenings mostly - so I can do "other" stuff too.  A job of love, cause I know right now I won't be making any money (right?).

Congrats and a HAT TRICK - or hat tip to qD who stuck by her Carolina Hurricane team who beat the Oilers for the Stanley Cup!  The best team won.

So, here we are - the second half of summer getting underway.  Planning already for the fall projects, getting ready to bring on board new people for the directors - winding down an anniversary year - and some very interesting projects.  So many possible things - but we are all so busy.  I made it into the chat room a couple of times lately - but catching up with UFO's and newsletter - well, the chat room will just have to rest for me.  I think what we have seen is with the advent of chat rooms 10 years ago, we opened out world to the millions of others with a crazy habit like ourselves.  We've made new friends, email back and forth keeping in touch more than we ever did with a girlfriend down the street!.  We have now challenged and encouraged each other to get more involved in our own projects.  Well - you can't chat and sew at the same time!  Although it is rewarding to chat - it is not productive - SO - we SEW!!!  Don't fret the quiet chat room - rejoice in new found friends, projects getting made and retreats being attended.  Until we all have the technical equipment to chat verbally into the computer beside us as we quilt, we will have a quiet chat room and a busy sewing machine!

Stitch ON!!

Smoky, enjoying her summer afternoon on the deck!!
