Royal Purple Ladies of the Night (R.P.L.O.T.N.)

In the late 1990's a group of women with a common love of quilting came together on the internet.  It was a wonderful experience, meeting fellow quilters from all over the world - and even from the same neighborhood!!

A chat room created by Fabric Stash was the point of contact for many women who could only chat after the household was quiet - hence "Ladies of the Night".

Does anyone really need the explanation for Royal Purple?    Not if you quilt!

As we chatted, the idea of a name for the group came about.  Bylaws have been written, meetings held and officers elected. R.P.L.O.T.N. has a direction - a goal - a purpose!

Clear out that unused stash and get some quilts out the door for people who need them!!

As we chatted, we exchanged support - in written form, in quilted form - sometimes blocks, sometimes fabric, sometimes the whole quilt!  As we chatted we realized not everyone lived far apart! We determined they were close together physically and "bees" also started up!

As we chatted we arranged to really meet at various quilt shows!  The energy that was felt the first time a group of chatters met for real - still gives me Moose Bumps!!!

Moose?? A crazy Moose has been created for a mascot!  She's holding a needle and wearing… a purple bra!!  There's no point explaining that one to friends - we just smile.

A newsletter is prepared every month! Shared stories and pictures - plans and plans derailed!

Round robins have been done, exchanges continue! Quilts made for comfort - for each other - and for strangers in need.  Those who can, at the moment, are more than willing to drop a current project and involve themselves in making a treasure from the heart.

Do we dare start to count how many quilts have been made under the R.P.L.O.T.N. name??

The latest project was a grande scale project!
Six quilts from all across the world  came together in the space of  7 weeks.
Talk about drop what you are doing!!              Emails, fabric, squares and quilts flew across  oceans and countries!

I'd say it was R.P.L.O.T.N.'s finest hour!

Now that the quilts were sold, and chatting has picked up, discussion on becoming an official guild has been tossed around - and, for the moment, tossed out.  It has been agreed that the group is one that would prefer to chat and make comfort quilts.  The people who need the support will benefit.  Donations are arriving without the need to be an officially registered organization, and the necessary paperwork has been done for federal tax purposes.

So - sit back, enjoy the RPLOTN web site and newsletter!!
